Friends of Skagit Beaches was established in 2008 by a group of Skagit County Beach Watcher Volunteers to develop local financial support for volunteer programs and activities in Skagit County aimed at protecting our marine shorelines and nearshore waters through education, citizen science, and stewardship projects. You might say we were created by volunteers for volunteers.
Friends is run by a volunteer Board of Directors without any employed staff. Our nonprofit is funded primarily through memberships, donations and other fundraising activities, like our annual Fidalgo Shoreline Academy. We are a registered 501c3 nonprofit corporation with the State of Washington and your donations are tax deductable.
Friends of Skagit Beaches is a closely affiliated funding partner for the Coastal Volunteer Partnership at Padilla Bay and the program coordinator serves as an ex-officio member of our Board of Directors. Friends makes a substantial annual contribution towards funding the volunteer coordination position at Padilla Bay.
Our members include active volunteers and community supporters who support our work through their annual membership fees and donations. We are your neighbors and share your love of the beautiful natural resources of Skagit County marine ecosystems. Join us in helping to preserve these marine treasures for us to enjoy today and for future generations to come.
Board of Directors
Our Board of Directors is made up of members who volunteer their time and experience to the management and guidance of Friends. Current members may nominate and vote for Board members. Board elections are held in January at our Annual Meeting.
